“Hen Long” means lucky dragon in Chinese–it was also our founder’s nickname from friends and clients.
Our story
In 1965, Bạc Liêu, Vietnam, Hen Long started a small vegetable farm to support his family. After fleeing the Vietnam War, the family settled in Canada, and with everyone’s support Hen Long Market opened in 1984. We were the first in the Lower Mainland of B.C. to bring Southeast Asian produce and dry goods to the community. Some of our loyal customers would travel hours for their weekly grocery haul! Falcon
The first product to carry the trademarked name "Falcon," is our Jasmine Thai Hom Mali Rice. It has been our best selling, and favourite rice for over 40 years. Look out for other products coming soon from this brand!
Pink Lotus
Launched in June 2012, our Pink Lotus brand is best known for its sweetened condensed creamer, along with rice noodles, rice paper, and pickled goods.
Lucky Boat
Since November 2012, our Lucky Boat brand has offered frozen produce, seafood, and glutinous rice meals cherished during festivals.
City Mangos
While City Mangos was branded in 2014, our customers have enjoyed our Tommy Atkins, Ataulfo, and Haden mangos long before then. These delicious varieties are brought straight from the fields to our store. You may even spy them at other local grocers, and taste them in the desserts from your favourite food or drink establishment.
Captain's Choice
We created Captain's Choice in 2015 to bring you frozen produce and seafood, including fishballs and many other frozen ready to eat or heat items.

Fresh Bake
We are famous for our Pan de Sal bread, baked fresh daily. You can also find other popular Filipino, Hong Kong style, & western fusion savoury and sweet treats baked fresh at our counter. Some items are limited supply, and are often sold out by noon!
Tasty Sandwiches & Desserts
Our family and local community grew up on our Vietnamese subs (Bánh Mì). They are still a popular choice for lunch, parties, and big events. The bread is also made fresh daily in store by Fresh Bake.

Community reach
Scholarships
At Hen Long, we believe in investing in future generations. Therefore, to support students in their post-secondary journeys, we offer bursaries at the following schools:
- Johnston Heights Secondary School
- North Surrey Secondary School
- Guildford Park Secondary School
- Queen Elizabeth Secondary School
There is also a fellowship available at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

Donations
In addition to regularly providing fresh produce and non-perishables, we annually donate a percentage of our profits to cheritable organizations dedicated to easing suffering, fighting poverty, and supporting those in crisis in our local communities and globally. These charities include (but are not limited to) the following:
